👉 My role in the project
As part of a narrative card game project with a dark and tactical atmosphere, I designed the entire game system: combat mechanics, deckbuilding system, card evolution, and integration of the narrative into the gameplay. The game is inspired by titles like Foretales, Waven, Flesh and Blood, and Banner Saga, while developing a more brutal and mature tone.
- Design of the combat system and interactions between cards, board, and actions.
- Development of an evolving deckbuilding system, influenced by narrative choices and the emotions of the characters.
- Reflection on the gamification of storytelling, allowing the cards to embody both the iconic actions of the heroes and their emotional states.
- Case studies on numerous existing card games to refine the balance between accessibility, tactical depth, and storytelling.
- Multiple paper prototypes to quickly validate gameplay loops and card mechanics.
- Writing the 3Cs of the project (Character, Camera, Controls) for integration into a playable prototype.
- Creation of mockups to visualize the interface, the evolution of the cards, and the interactions on the game board.
- Start of prototyping in Unreal Engine 5 in collaboration with the lead developer, before an urgent mission change.
- Photoshop / PowerPoint (UI/UX mockups/Maps)
- Unreal Engine 5 (beginning of engine integration)
- Notion / Miro / Excel (GDD documentation, balancing, iteration tracking)
